Artificial Intelligence: A Great Disruptor, According to Billionaire Ray Dalio

Billionaire investor Ray Dalio believes that artificial intelligence (AI) will soon have a significant impact on our lives, both in positive and negative ways. Speaking at Fast Company’s Innovation Festival 2023, Dalio highlighted the potential of AI to enhance productivity, education, healthcare, and even introduce a shorter workweek. However, he also acknowledged that AI is likely to disrupt jobs, leading to debates among employees and legislators who may seek to slow down its progress.
Dalio emphasized that these changes will occur rapidly, stating that they are expected to take place within the next five years. Already, some advancements are underway. For instance, ChatGPT has surpassed expectations by successfully passing Wharton MBA exams and allegedly helping someone win the lottery in less than a year since its launch in November 2022.
Job disruptions are also on the horizon, as organizations such as the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) lobby to replace actors with AI technology. This trend is expected to expand to other industries as well. According to a survey conducted by online education platform edX, almost half of U.S. CEOs and C-suite executives believe that their current workforce’s skills will become irrelevant by 2025. As a result, 87% of executives are already struggling to hire employees with AI expertise.
However, this presents an opportunity for workers to acquire AI skills and earn additional income. Susan Gonzales, CEO and founder of nonprofit organization AIandYou, suggests that individuals can take advantage of online learning opportunities to gain an understanding of AI principles. This knowledge can then be utilized to become AI tutors or provide AI training to the next generation.
Gonzales emphasizes the importance of learning more about AI for everyone, from entrepreneurs and freelancers to full-time office workers. Regardless of whether one is excited, curious, or concerned about AI, now is the time to increase knowledge in this field.
