BMW M Division Set to Launch Electric Sports Car with Four Motors

The BMW M Division, known for creating high-performance vehicles, is set to launch its first-ever electric sports car. This prototype has already begun public testing, and BMW aims to have it on the market by the end of 2025. Unlike previous EV models from BMW, which fall under the M-Performance category, this new electric sports car will be a thoroughbred M car with zero emissions.

One standout feature of this upcoming electric sports car is its four-motor configuration. While most current electric vehicles have one or two motors, BMW’s new model will be equipped with four, making it a unique offering in the EV market. The four-motor setup allows for torque vectoring and provides a different driving experience compared to traditional internal combustion engine-powered sports cars.

The exact details of the motors used in this electric M model are still unknown. The motors could be innovative wheel-hub motors or a setup similar to what Bosch has developed for the Rivian R1S. Official information about this vehicle is limited, but BMW insiders have confirmed that it will have over 1,000 horsepower and will be built on a brand-new platform. However, acceleration from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) is not the primary focus for this car; instead, BMW aims to create a vehicle that is enjoyable both on the road and on the track.

BMW’s move into electric sports cars follows the industry trend of shifting towards more sustainable mobility solutions. As part of its electric vehicle strategy, BMW plans to transition its entire M lineup from internal combustion engines to battery-powered vehicles by the end of the decade.
